Celebrating our Global Connections

上星期五晚上, the 国际盛会 and Bazaar was a festive finale for a weeklong celebration of our global connections during International Week. As participants took to the stage dancing, 唱歌, 和更多的, students and faculty alike gained a deeper appreciation for the diverse cultures represented in the Foxcroft community — with applause and cheers echoing out of FoxHound Auditorium past the Bazaar tables that filled the first floor of Schoolhouse.

Performances featured an array of languages and styles that highlighted a variety of countries and cultures represented in our community. Songs included “Til the End of the Moon” by 贝拉F. ’24, “Alfonsina y el mar” by 凯蒂年代. ’26, “En el muelle de San Blas” by 艾米问. 24、伊莉斯·L的《在艾拉》(On Ira). ’26, and “Ave Maria” by faculty member Dr. Meghen塔特尔.

Dance performances included 节奏的国家’s choreography to a mix of K-pop songs,” Khujusta N. 1924年和眼肌年代. ’24 with an Afghan 跳舞 in traditional attire, Hailey Y. 25岁对《太阳城电子app》的表演,” and a social Latin 跳舞 mix by Director of International Student Services Kate Tomaskovic and her dancing partner to close the show. 晚会结束后, stations throughout Schoolhouse provided opportunities for deeper learning or to try something new! 一直都很受欢迎, the Spicy Food Challenge put even the most diehard spice fanatics to the test with flavors from across the globe while an international snacks and sodas table offered milder sweets at the other end of the hall. Students could test their skills and knowledge with a Mexican Bean Race, 曼卡拉锦标赛, “GeoBee”Kahoot, and an international flag-matching timed activity.

在美术室, calligraphy and henna tattoos were popular stops, as well as earring-making and lantern/candle decorating workshops on the second floor of Schoolhouse. There were also presentations by current international students Sandra R. ’26(来自立陶宛)和伊莉斯L. ’26 (from Paraguay) to share more about their native languages and home countries.

早些时候, 在早会上, fashion from across the world was on display at the International Week Fashion Show. Outfits represented eight different countries, including:

墨西哥——一杯Huipil, or traditionally indigenous garment worn by women across Central America, and an outfit designed and sewn by the Spanish 4 class that was inspired by Frida Kahlo’s attire.
Ireland — an Irish Dance costume worn for feisanna or Irish Dance competitions.
India — a sharara worn during weddings, festivals, and many other celebrations.
Spain — a silk shawl known as the Spanish Mantón de Manila.
Ethiopia — a chiffon from the ethnic tribe Tigray.
Haiti — a traditional handmade denim skirt painted with figures and details in red and blue, 海地国旗的颜色.
Japan — a yukata or casual version of a kimono.
Afghanistan — a kamiz (dress), waskat (waistcoat), and shal or chador (head covering).

Many thanks to all who contributed to this weeklong celebration of the diverse cultures in our community. Special shoutouts go to the Global Cultures Club and International Ambassadors; to the performers and behind-the-scenes crew that presented the community with a fantastic Gala; to all the students who helped run Bazaar stations and decorate the Dining Hall; to the family members and Parents’ Association who donated their time or favorite treats to share with the community; to the faculty members who were integral to the planning of the week’s events; to the Dining Hall staff who prepared fantastic and flavorful menus; and to everyone who tried something different this week — be it a new food, 跳舞, or a language — and embraced the unique opportunities to learn more about the international connections woven into the tapestry of the Foxcroft community.
